Onto the Australian Open Open Final Days
It’s the seriously pointy end of the Australian Open now, and Dandenong Club players have been in the thick of it.
Men’s Pairs
Monday was day 10, and the men’s pairs are now down to sixteen final pairs. This is great news for Dandenong Club’s Shane Carter and Matty Arnold, who, after an outstanding three matches, will on Tuesday face off against Bundoora’s Ben Huber and Melbourne Pulse and Broadbeach star Barrie Lester. They will be on the Broadbeach greens from 9.30.
For the winners, quarterfinals and semi-final matches follow. It’s a huge task, but with a string of six wins behind them, Shane and Matty have answered every question asked so far.
Others on the green today were Ray Arnold and Kris Paine, who started Day 10 with a convincing win before confronting Ben Twist and Aaron Wilson in the round of 64. Our guys missed out but managed a creditable 12 to 25 loss to the defending champions.

Women’s Pairs
The women’s pairs begin their knock-round of 64 teams. Annette McCormack is there with Sophie Jing, and Samantha Atkinson is paired up with NZ international Salina Goddard. With three wins, the women move into the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Nics and Sammy were in the mix today in the fours Joined by favourites at Dandenong Club, Tris Doolan and Trish Cullinane, they kicked off the day with two solid wins. Up against last year’s winners in the round of 16 of O. Cartwright (VIC), L. Butler (WA), C. Stewart (QLD), and K. Inch (QLD), they couldn’t quite get the job done.
