Last year, the Dandenong Club was one of eight teams that entered the inaugural VBL-held competition at Moama Bowls Club. This year, the competition will be comprised of 16 franchises, including the original eight franchises (Vic Storm, Warrnambool, Yarraville, Deer Park, Traralgon, Brighton, Moama, Dandenong Club) and eight new franchises.

The Dandenong Club team has been selected and will be composed of the following five players: Kris Paine, Michael Daly, William Sciberras, and recruits Jarryd Davies, Alan Veitch, and Michael Stevenson. The team will be coached by Brit Jago (Wombat), with Rob Sharpe as the Team Manager.

The competition begins with two sectional events.

One will be held at Dandenong Club on the 25th and 26th of August, and the other at Club Barham on September  1 and 2.

Eight franchises are allocated to each venue into two sections of four.

Games are played on Friday evenings from 6:00 pm to 10:20 pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:20 pm.

The two highest-ranked teams per section qualify for the finals weekend, which will take place at Traralgon from the 8th to the 10th of September, 2023.

Explanation of How the Finals Weekend Works:

  • Eight franchises from the top 2 spots of all sections participate.
  • There are two sections, each consisting of four teams.
  • On Friday evening, a single game is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 10:20 pm.
  • On Saturday, there are two games: one from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and another from 2:00 pm to 6:20 pm.
  • Two finals will take place on Sunday: one from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and another from 2:00 pm to 6:20 pm.
  • The two highest-ranking teams per section qualify for the VBL2 finals.
  • The team that finishes 1st in section 1 will play against the team that finishes 2nd in section 2, and the team that finishes 1st in section 2 will play against the team that finishes 2nd in section 1.
  • The winners of the above matches will compete in the Grand Final.
  • Prize money will be awarded to all franchises that reach the finals weekend

The Playing Format:

(For all play across all weekends): It will be a five-a-side format with rotating formats, including Pairs and Triples, followed by Singles and Fours.

Scoring:

Scoring for games will involve three points for winning a rink and one point for a draw (singles, pairs, triples, and fours). The overall match win (the highest number of games) will earn 10 points, and a draw will yield 5 points, while a loss results in zero points. Additionally, a sweep of all rinks within a game will earn a team five bonus points. In cases where two sides are tied on points from the four rinks within a game, there will be no draws. Instead, the tiebreaker will be determined by shots up. If the tie persists, a VBL Penalty Shootout will be held.
