Earlier this year, the Dandenong Club was invited to participate as one of 28 teams from around Australia to compete at the Warila Bowls Club in NSW. It was a significant step for our club to compete against some of the most professionally run clubs in the country.
Next week (September 18 – 22), we will head to the Gold Coast, as we have been invited to participate in the Broadbeach Five-a-Side event. Once again, many of the best clubs from Australia and New Zealand will be in attendance.
The Five-a-Side format is one that we have gained recent experience through our club’s own nighttime fives competition and as competitors in the Victorian Bowls League held at our club less than a month ago. This format involves each team of five players contesting Pairs and Triples events, followed by Singles and Fours events. Fourteen rounds of matches are completed to determine a final six over three and a half days of play, with the finals occurring on day four and day five.
Alan Veitch, Kris Paine, Michael Stevenson, Clark Wilson, and Michael Daly are the five players selected to represent us at this event. Each of them will be involved in our summer pennant teams in 2023/24. This opportunity represents another step forward in the club’s development and allows each team member to enhance their own game through participation in this competition.
