The Open continued into Day 5 with Dandenong Club members securing some solid wins in the women’s singles and men’s pairs. It was a quieter day for Dandenong Club bowlers today as we saw the start of the women’s singles event with Nicole Mckenzie and Annette McCormack on show. Samantha Atkinson plays at Club Robina tomorrow on Day 6. Nics managed two and a half wins with a 20 to 20 tie in her last game, seeing her through to the knockouts. Annette, after dropping her first match, finished with two wins but missed the cut.
Mens Pairs.
In the men’s pairs, Kris Paine followed up his singles qualification by partnering with Ray Arnold for two out of three wins and safe passage to the Knockouts. Britt Jago and Scotty Guymer missed out.
Kris and Radar join Shane Carter and Matt Arnold in the knockout rounds.
Melbourne Pulse superstar Barrie Lester finished 67 shots up with Ben Huber and will be there on day 10 when this competition resumes on Monday. Barrie’s Pulse teammate Gary Kelly is also through, as is Sean Ingham, who represented Dandenong Club in last year’s UBC.
Men’s Fours up Next
The men’s fours begin with qualifying rounds tomorrow: Rob Wilson, Anthony Lee, Radar, and Kris Paine in Section 11 and Britt Jago, Shane Carter, Matt Arnold, and Scott Guymer in Section 80. Paul Meyers will be playing in a combined team in Section 31, and Brenton McKenzie similarly in Section 66.
At the Rolls Royce level, Barrie Lester joins Corey Wedlock, Aaron Teys and Aron Sherrif, whilst Gary Kelly will combine with Ray Pearse, Peter Taylor and Craig Healey. Sean Ingham will play with Wayne Turley, Aaron Wilson and Ali Forsyth.
