Our Presentation Night Returns
Exciting news from our Dandenong Club fishing family! We’re thrilled to announce that our Presentation Night is back on August 3rd, 2024 in the Heatherton Room. It’s been a while since Covid put a pause on our get-togethers, so we’re extra pumped for this one!
Picture this: a fun-filled evening with door prizes, raffles, and games, plus a mouth-watering buffet meal with dessert. Yum! 😋 It’s our chance to cheer on our syllabus year winners and have a good laugh with our bent hook champ. Plus, it’s our way of saying a big “thank you” to all of you amazing members who’ve stuck with us through thick and thin.
Now, let’s talk numbers. For our members, it’s $45 per person. Bringing along a guest? They’re more than welcome! Guest tickets are $60 each. Drinks will be at bar prices, so you can quench your thirst as you please.
We’re keen to get a headcount ASAP, so please give Lola Cini a call on 0416 141 887, shout out to let us know how many will be in your group. Latest date for numbers needed is by the 18th July, 2024. The more, the merrier!
What’s Coming Up
Quick updates on our upcoming adventures:
– Surf fishing at Gunnamatta Ocean Beach (21st July 2024) Keep in touch with your trip captain Mick Keating 0407 652 532 for the latest info and updates on the Weather expected. Salmon & Shark will hopefully be on the bite for this trip.
– Blue Rock Lake (18th August, 2024): Is located in Gippsland. This trip is a bit of everything as you can either launch a boat or try your luck off the river bank or if your feeling adventurous jump in a kayak and try a bit of fishing that way. We hope to catch a few varieties of fish on the day such as Rainbow Trout, Australian Bass, Brown Trout, Estuary Perch, Redfin (English Perch) & the dreaded Carp we sure hope these don’t appear. Don’t forget they also have great picnic facilities as well so if you decide to bring along the family and make a day of it. Trip Captain to be announced shortly.
– Eildon houseboat trip (13th-16th September 2024): It’s completely full! Our Trip captain for this is Ian Watson, call to check in with him 0488 384 293. We’ve locked in 2 Houseboats Boats exciting stuff. Fees for this trip will be due by our Next General Meeting When: Tuesday 13th August, 2024. We will be in touch with those attending with the updated final cost.
– Fish hatchery day trip (12th October, 2024): Nearly booked out! Give Ted or Lola a buzz if you want to grab one of the last seats on the bus.
– Arcadia Native Fish Hatchery Day Trip – 20mins south of Shepperton (12th October 2024): Bus is Fully Booked out! Give Ted Bush 0438 059 829 or Lola Cini 0416 141 887 a buzz if you want to still join in on the day but follow us up in your car as it will be a great day had by all. Free fishing at the Centre’s fish-out pond, stocked regularly with catchable-size Murray cod, silver perch, and golden perch. BBQ will be supplied on the day by the fishing club. More info to be released on this trip in the coming months.
– Three rivers (October 25th – 27th, 2024): Members planning on staying at the Nicholson Caravan Park
there is only a few cabins left, Phone number 51568348. News has broken that another fishing club is also attending this weekend so accommodation is pretty tight. Our Trip Captain for this one is Geoff Morgan 0428 173 206 so don’t forget to check-in and let him know your present. This will be a great few days away as always.
At our next general meeting, Maria Gabbe will be collecting our annual fees. Remember, you need to be a paid-up Dandenong Club member to join our fishing club. Oh, and don’t forget to snag a couple of new syllabus cards while you’re there! Now, let’s chat about our recent Lake Eildon and pondage trip (15th-16th June, 2024). Big thanks to our trip captain, Barry Bush! We had a great turnout with 7 anglers hitting the water. Most folks fished the pondage, while Ian, Harris, and Barry braved the Weir on Saturday.
The catch of the day goes to Ian with a cracking brown trout weighing in at 912 grams! Barry snagged second place with a 320-gram beauty. Sadly, no third place this time. But hey, that’s fishing for you! 😄
It was great to try out the new accommodation we found where most of us stayed together in the house with ampules of room, great set up for everyone and we will definitely be back again next year.
Special mention to Barry for winning the bent hook award. His fridge mishap with the car battery led to an unexpected RACV call-out and a pricey replacement. Oops! We’ve all been there, mate.
