Day 10 for Dandenong Club
Sunday was about the men’s singles and how far Matty Arnold and Mike Petty could progress. Having negotiated the Qualifying rounds and three rounds of knockout matches, three more wins on Sunday are required to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
After some monumental results last week, Mark Petty fell by a single shot in round four of the knockouts by the narrowest of margins, just one shot, to go down 19 to 20.
Matty Arnold, however, was 11 shots up over his ACT opponent. Next up, he confronted current World Indoor Champion and former Australian representative Ray Pearse.
Reaching the final 32 in this company was an outstanding performance, and while Pearse was too good on the day, Matty’s efforts were the best in memory by a Dandenong Club player in the Singles at the Australian Open.
Melbourne Pulse’s star Barrie Lester, competing in the Clubs run in the singles event, fell in the same round.
Coming Up for Day 11
Today, in the women’s fours, Nics Mckenzie and Sammy Atkinson are teamed up with Trish Culinane and Tris Doolan. They need three wins to reach the square finals. Along the way, they face up to many of Australia’s best. It’s a big day that provides huge possibilities for this team.
Today, the Pairs event moves into knockouts. We have two combinations through the Ray Arnold/Kris Piane pair, and Shane Carter matches up with Matty Arnold.
