We’re buzzing with excitement because the Ultimate Bowls Competition (UBC) is just around the corner—less than two weeks away! We’ve got everything set for when 26 teams hit the greens for six thrilling days of action. This format is one of the most exciting and impactful we’ve seen in bowls, with a whopping $285,000 prize pool up for grabs and its here at Dandenong Club.

Now, here’s how it works: The UBC is a pairs event, but each team has three players who rotate during the event. There are three events every year. The format’s been cleverly designed to appeal not just to die-hard bowls enthusiasts but also to those who love fast-paced sports action. Matches wrap up in just 25 minutes—keeping everyone on the edge of their seats whether they’re watching live or on TV.
One of UBC’s coolest features? It’s a dynamic scoring system! Players can score points with every bowl played—a ‘toucher’ gets you 3 points, and holding a shot after the leads finish earns another 3 points. Both teams can score on the same end: 10 points for the closest bowl, 5 for the second-closest and 3 for the third-closest.
Traditional scoreboards have been ditched in favour of sleek electronic screens at each rink end—all linked to the custom web app that updates scores automatically as they happen. Plus, you’ll find real-time Points Tables, Current Score Summaries and Leaderboards, too!
This year’s event promises plenty of thrills both on-field & off—it’s going to be an absolute cracker whether playing or spectating! Dandenong Club proudly fields two teams this time around: Our Blue Team features Irish superstar Gary Kelly alongside irrepressible Barrie Lester plus Englishman Harry Goodwin (who some members might remember from his earlier pennant games).
Meanwhile, our Orange Team showcases young talent shaking things up—Scotsman Aaron Betts (21), Aussie International Sammy Atkinson & NSW’s Male Bowler Of Year Jack Mc Shane (also aged 21). These lads are ready to bring their A-game, so let’s cheer them all the way through the competition together!
So get yourself to Dandenong Club. There are six days of play commencing Sunday 1st December with play commencing at 10.00 am and concluding early evening. There will be plenty of grandstand seating, and entry is free.
