Meet Our Star Players
Dandenong Club was there when this competition began in 2022 and will take a third tilt at what is quickly becoming one of the countries richest and most prestigious state based competitions. Played as teams of up to six and incorporating singles, pairs, triples and fours formats, winning requires a sustained effort over four days of competition. We are proud to introduce our exceptional team for the 2024 season, which includes a mix of renowned and emerging talents:
Gary Kelly: Originally from Northern Ireland, our marquee player has been an integral part of our BPL and UBC teams. He brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team. He has multiple Commonwealth Games medals to his credit and is the current BPL’s Most Valuable Player.-
Matt Ellul: Recruited from the Altona Bowls Club specifically for this event, Matt has an impressive track record, not just around the Victorian bowls scene but having played state bowls and the Bowls Premier League (BPL) for Perth. He was part of our team that played in the first VBL in 2022 where he played singles and skipped the triples. 
Sam Atkinson: The current Australian Indoor Champion, Sam adds a seriously competitive edge to our lineup, having just returned from Europe, where she won the World Champion of Champion Pairs with Ray Pearse and was a semi-finalist in the singles event. She has signed for Clubs pennant season this year and expected to make a big impact.
Kris Paine: A key player with notable achievements, including being a State singles Champion of Champions runner-up. Kris is a bowler with big ambitions, is cool in a crisis and knows how to win. He was a part of the Club’s 2023 VBL squad.
Nics McKenzie: An integral part of our team, known for her impressive record at the state level and exceptional front-end performances. She’s employed at the Club, and a regular at pointy end of the state titles.
- Clark Wilson: Another valuable member, Clark has come a long way in a hurry, although he is
relatively new to bowls, he has already been part of Club representative teams to Warilla and Broadbeach. He brings high levels of enthusiasm and drive to the squad. He has a big reputation as an unflappable front end gun.

Engage with us and be part of the Victorian Bowls League story. Our first event is played at Dandenong Club on August 23 and 24. The top two of our section’s four teams travel to Barham the following weekend for the playoff.
The others in our section are Sebastopol, Ocean Grove and Club Barham.
