What a fabulous night it was in Birmingham on the final day of the women’s singles and the men’s Triples. Pulse team members Ellen Ryan and Barrie Lester were chasing gold. Ellen in the singles Barrie as part of a team that included Ben Twist and Carl Healy.

First, it was the Triples we gave England an 11 to 1 start before catching them at 16 all, only to  drop the last two ends for a two-shot loss  So it was silver for the Aussies who should feel proud of their efforts to go so close to getting that gold

Then came Ellen. what a performance down early to Sally Breere who had beaten Ellen in the sectionals.  After a slow start, she stormed home to a 21-17 win and Gold. In doing so she became Australia’s first Women’s Commonwealth Singles Champion. Ellen is not just a champion bowler but a champion Aussie and one we can all be so proud of.

She has recommitted to being part of the Melbourne Pulse team along with Barrie and Irishman Gary Kelly.

It’s not over for  any of the Pulse team members as Ellen moves on to the pairs, Barrie the fours and Gary represents Northern Ireland in the men’s singles
